CHICAGO – An 18-year-old Chicago woman was killed just hours after her sister sat on the stage at President Barack Obama’s speech about gun violence at an area school.
Lake County Coroner Thomas Rudd told The Chicago Sun-Times (http://bit.ly/12Uoh9b) that Janay Mcfarlane was shot once in the head around 11:30 p.m. Friday in North Chicago. She was visiting friends and family in the suburb.
Her mother told the newspaper that Mcfarlane was with a friend, and that the bullet was meant for that friend.
The shooting came hours after Mcfarlane’s 14-year-old sister, Destini, was feet from Obama at Hyde Park Career Academy, where he pushed for gun legislation and paid tribute to Hadiya Pendleton. She was fatally shot last month in what police said was a case of mistaken identity.
